Allen House, Yonsei University

Allen House, Yonsei University

The Allen Hall at Yonsei University was constructed as part of the university’s centennial celebration, replacing the existing reception hall with a modern building. It is named in commemoration of Dr. Horace Allen, founder of the royal hospital Gwanghyewon. Situated within a quiet wooded area of the Yonsei University campus, the facility prioritizes privacy to serve as a restful retreat for guests. Independent floors house guest rooms, dining, lobby, and meeting rooms, surrounding an outdoor grass courtyard that functions as an intimate gathering space. This courtyard acts as a small central element within the secluded campus zone. To harmonize with the existing environment, the massing is segmented by function for sculptural expression, constructed with brick walls accented by horizontal bands to create a building that closely integrates with the site without environmental discord.
