Solium Centum SKY, Yeongjong

Solium Centum SKY, Yeongjong

The site is located near the Unseo Station in Yeongjong Sky City around the Incheon International Airport, at the border between the residential and the general commercial areas. The middle-range view available here includes Mt. Baeknyeonsan, and the distant view includes the Yellow Sea, Mt. Baegunsan, and the airport. Following the skyline design out of the landscape specialization plan of the Yeongjong Sky City in the Incheon Free Economic Zone, this project was designed with the urban image of its upper part and its lower part aiming at vitalizing the commercial function in consideration of the pedestrian condition. The lower part was designed to enable access to the site from all sides by connecting various circulations beside the studio apartment and the main entrance to the commercial building. This was to improve the face-to-face character of the commercial building and create the facade shaped to express the intensity as an entrance. Along the walkways were placed the courtyards to enable the rich experience of outdoor space, according to which unique commercial functions could be organized. The facades at the upper part were based on essential surface subdivision by the layout of floor plans, but designed with zoning-based patterns to avoid monotony. The northwestern facade was materialized with aluminum sheets to stress the vertical elements with the vertical louvers applied and the multi-level image added. At the corner between the upper mass and the crossroads, thin ceramic panels were applied to make the building into a landmark.
