The renovation project of the Samyang Corporation headquarters, completed in 1976 and designed by Junglim Architecture, aimed to modernize the Samyang’s image while creating an advanced work environment capable of supporting an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
The original stepped form combining a thick podium and slender tower was maintained while structural reinforcement and expansion works were carried out concurrently. Two extra floors were added to the lower section to increase office space, and mediating spaces such as a two-story open lobby, corridors, courtyards, and landscaped outdoor areas were designed for easy internal and external access. The front entrance was opened to enhance openness and accessibility, and a large underground parking lot was added to the spacious rear yard.
The old precast concrete (PC) tiles of the envelope were all replaced with curtain walls using a “Slab-to-Slab” technique to minimize glass panel joints to maintain transparency, and details were handled to create a glowing night effect with light emanating from inside the building. An aluminum unit bar curtain wall system was incorporated to allow the use of existing modules and create clean exterior detailing.
