Ewha Womans University Kindergarten

Ewha Womans University Kindergarten

This kindergarten, located next to the historic Welch-Ryang Auditorium on the Ewha Womans University campus, benefits from its site conditions to maximize educational potential. Due to limited land like most university buildings, the need for a spacious playground led to a two-story basic floor plan. A steep pitched roof emphasizes the front facade while articulating the building into small masses. The gabled roof proved ideal for expressing Ewha’s environment and children’s innocence.

The six classrooms allow flexible area adjustments, with each accessing independently via a wide hall containing wash areas, restrooms, and observation rooms. Diverse colors create unique atmospheres per room to support group education. Features include indoor stairs doubling as slides, a playground enabled by Korea Fantasy’s cooperation, balloon-shaped lights, and interior graphic designs.

Fine, detailed elements aim to enhance children’s daily convenience, foster a sense of ownership, and cultivate attachment to the space.
