Located in Ansan, Seodaemun-gu, the Seodaemun Youth Center was designed to harmonize with the surrounding natural environment while fulfilling its role as a public youth cultural facility and serving the local community. Youth culture is a distinct cultural sphere that is constantly evolving and differs from that of older generations; it is characterized by its inherent inability to be standardized. It encompasses various characteristics such as freedom, diversity, and a sense of speed, and this center was designed to effectively incorporate these diverse elements into daily life. The unique nature of youth culture and the diverse characteristics of the sloping site serve as the foundation for creating varied spaces and forms without confining the building to a single, rigid form.

The Youth Training Center is composed of two main functions: sports facilities, including a gymnasium and swimming pool, and cultural facilities that accommodate various programs. The characteristics of the sloped site allowed for a clear separation of these two functions in the cross-section, positioning the cultural facility on the mountainside as a quiet retreat that offers youth an opportunity to connect with nature. Set against the irregular contours of the sloping site, the training center is divided into regular sections, drawing the natural environment into the spaces between them to seamlessly integrate learning, interaction, and cultural activities both inside and out. Open spaces such as outdoor decks and courtyards, which express a sense of freedom, were actively incorporated to allow users to experience nature even within the building. The design prioritizes user-centered planning and actively incorporates green spaces, play areas, and rest areas.
