Thinking Platform Dangsan, the second Knowledge Industry Center developed under SK D&D’s office brand “Thinking Platform,” is a large-scale business facility built in Yeongdeungpo, one of Seoul’s three major business districts. Unlike conventional knowledge industry centers that are supply-oriented, this project architecturally embodies a new paradigm where actual users take center stage.
Whereas typical knowledge industry centers have prioritized efficiency and cost-effectiveness, Thinking Platform Dangsan provides high qualities to the features that were previously implemented only minimally and connects to its urban surroundings, in order to create an environment that fosters pride and a lasting sense of belonging among tenants. The existing site had been used as a logistics warehouse, severing its ties with the surrounding city. Thinking Platform Dangsan reestablishes this connection by introducing “streets” and “plazas,” forming an open ground that integrates with the urban fabric. These streets continue from the city and extend into the building, linking its various levels and becoming internal circulation routes. Along this process, plazas and promenades (parks) emerge as open spaces, supporting commercial activities, events, and various programs on the lower floors and forming the foundation for diverse interactions and community building. As both a space of flow and communication and a place where people want to stay, Thinking Platform Dangsan proposes a new typology of knowledge industry center that enlivens the city.
