Adjoining the rear plaza of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, Royal Building was initiated as part of Seoul’s redevelopment program in the 1980s aimed at improving the downtown environment.
The composition of the central high-rise section and the lower wings on both sides achieves a visual harmony, while the continuous horizontal windows — repeating the same pattern with the main entrance as a focal point — form a unified façade perceived as a stable, balanced flow. To enhance thermal performance, the proportions of the windows were adjusted according to orientation. Although the exterior space is limited, sculptures, a sunken garden, and plantings have been integrated to harmonize naturally with the rear courtyard of the Sejong Center.
