Located in the heart of the Dongtan 2 New Town’s regional transportation hub, adjacent to Dongtan Station and the Gyeongbu Expressway, E-Mart Traders aimed for a welcoming design that reflects its role as a link between the commercial and residential districts.
Taking into account the view from the Gyeongbu Expressway, vertical louvers were installed in the voids of the above-ground parking lot to create a rhythmic façade. The design emphasizes each corner of the pentagonal mass, ensuring high visibility from major intersections. Given the site’s location within a residential complex, food and beverage outlets and a cultural center were placed in locations easily accessible to nearby residents to create a community hub. Additionally, public spaces were connected via a walking path along the Osan-ri Stream, which flows in front of the site, to form a diverse array of outdoor spaces. At the same time, the building has received green building certification for its various eco-friendly features, and it is expected to set a new standard for sustainable retail facilities.
