Starfield City is a brand developed by integrating Starfield’s distinctive identity and a “malling” character into a commercial facility that was originally planned as an E‑mart Town. The third in the series, Starfield City Myeongji is located in Myeongji International New City in southwest Busan, adjacent to the sea and at a key junction of major roads, where an iconic exterior design and programs were actively introduced to function as a local community hub. Junglim Architecture carried out the redesigned Starfield City project through to detailed design.
By floor, the complex consists of E‑mart Traders on two basement levels, a shopping mall on the first to third floors above ground, and parking on the fourth to eighth floors. The store merchandising plan, which had followed a conventional layout based on analysis of the new town’s commercial district, was reconfigured into a shopping‑mall type by opening two voids over two stories, while the rooftop was planned with a variety of community facilities such as a pet park, seaside observatory, and children’s playground. To allow main user groups to move conveniently between Traders and the mall, circulation and core planning took the movement of shopping carts into account. As the parking is located on the top levels, the façade was designed to prevent light pollution to nearby residential areas. The L‑shaped mass, accented in blue to symbolize the sea and waves, creates a distinctive appearance unique to the Myeongji branch, with a rhythmic louver design completed by coated ALC metal panels.
