The site is located in the new town of Cheonan as an important spot supposed to be surrounded by a forest of apartment housings before long. However, it is legally a natural green area that is subject to many restrictions regarding area and the number of stories. Besides, it is supposed to be a part of the complex church campus of five buildings, including the existing Methodist Church Chungcheong Branch Office, the main building and residence to be built by this project, and the education and welfare centers to be annexed in future. Therefore, we set to establish the phased master plan of the whole site by predicting the situation of the near future properly in many ways. Recently, churches have improved the functions of divine service and education. This project also had to reflect such an educational function partly in the main building, because the education center could not be built in this time due to many circumstances. The educational space had to be organized as compactly as possible outside the main hall. The 1st floor is used as the church office, but to be extended as the broader lobby and lounge along with the future construction of the educational center. The foremost function of the main building, the divine service, is addressed at the main hall from the 2nd to the 4th floors, which can be directly approached either through the outdoor stairs or through the indoor lobby. The oval-shaped hall has the traverse entryway which shortens the distance between the preacher and the audience, enabling the more intimate service with the more united feeling. The middle-sized hall on the 1st floor and the multipurpose hall on the basement are to be used for many purposes like social events and divine services of various kinds of churches, prior to the construction of the educational center.
