The Sihwa National Industrial Complex, formerly an aging manufacturing-centered industrial complex, has recently been designated a smart industrial complex and a frontline base for the 4th industrial revolution. To support the production activities of tenant companies and facilitate industry upgrading and digital transformation, various industrial infrastructures are planned to be supplied. This includes establishing digital infrastructures such as data centers and smart factories. The KAAM Square IDC Ansan is positioned as a “landmark data center” within this complex, aimed at transforming the existing manufacturing-focused image of the Ansan Industrial Complex into a high-tech IT-specialized zone.
Architecturally, the building emphasizes publicness and eco-friendliness in its lower levels and facades. The lower-level support facilities highlight openness and public character with their transparency. The vertical facade features produce symbolic patterns created by building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), allowing daylight penetration throughout the building. Beyond BIPV, the entire building applies passive and active design principles complying with Gyeonggi Province’s green building design standard. Alongside, a vertically separated security system has been implemented for data security and well-organized circulation, and crime prevention design measures applied to ensure a transparent and safe street environment for data center workers and industrial complex users.
