Shinan County, located in Jeollanam-do, was the only area among 22 cities and counties without a police station. In 2007, a local community movement called for establishing a police station, and after a design service procurement process (including pre-qualification) in 2017, construction was completed in 2023. The site is surrounded by abundant nature and opens in all directions, which inspired a design concept based on respecting and preserving the surrounding natural environment. The design connected green spaces and created paths open to citizens to move away from the traditionally authoritative image of police stations.
The lower floors house civil affairs services and related programs, with void areas designed to naturally separate the circulations of civil petitioners and staff. The upper floors contain office and auxiliary facilities, with courtyards adjacent to the main auditorium and the staff cafeteria serving as rest areas for employees. The level difference between the courtyard and the site allows appropriate daylighting and ventilation for the working spaces.
