Seodaemun Museum of Natural History

Seodaemun Museum of Natural History

Seodaemun Museum of Natural History, established by a municipality for the first time in Korea, is located alongside the entryway to Yeonhuiro Road within Ansan Urban Natural Park, and planned as a competition design project along with the Museum of Photographic History project. This museum intends to provide the chance for children to experience the importance of nature, the space for residents to enjoy culture, and the space for families to take rest. Exhibition halls use three floors to accommodate the required programs on the limited available site within the park. Visitors can experience nature according to the flow of time from the birth of the Earth to the Ansan Natural Park. The whole flow of circulation passes through outdoor spaces with such themes as water, tree, stone, sky, and star, which are used as the spaces for outdoor exhibition and rest where one can feel nature and the city varying with time. The museum in the park connects to the promenade and becomes open to the street. The three-story-high open central hall is open to the circumstances through the glass curtain walls, and so is expected to become an open museum that embraces nature.
