Korea University Anam Hospital Medicomplex

The Korea University Anam Hospital Medicomplex is a project to construct a new hospital focused on healing, connected with the existing narrow and aging hospital. Major design considerations included functional and spatial connectivity with the existing hospital, addressing the site’s limited size and connecting the surrounding terrain with internal spaces, and establishing new symbolism departing from the old hospital image.

The design integrated the surrounding urban context and the diverse programs of the existing campus to give the hospital new symbolic significance. The hospital embodies a village-like street environment, with the flexible internal spaces connecting various zones and the public plaza linking the hospital to the surrounding environment. Open spaces serve as healing areas and establish circulation paths easily accessible for patients, visitors, and hospital staff. The design improved spatial efficiency and functionality while respecting the campus context and providing open external views. Psychological comfort in indoor spaces was emphasized in placing programs.

Through Medicomplex, the Korea University Anam Hospital realized a smart hospital, implementing IoT systems combined with Precision Hospital Information System (P-HIS), enabling smart ward solutions based on individualized health information and data.
