The E-pit, unveiled in 2021, is Hyundai Motor Group’s ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging brand. Like a pit stop in a racing event where cars are quickly serviced, E-pit is designed as a space where EV drivers can charge their vehicles while receiving related services seamlessly. The Mobility BU began this project in September 2022 in collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group, reviewing over 90 sites nationwide. By 2023, the unit successfully completed the project through building permits and detailed designs for 16 sites. E-pit charging stations, based on rapid charging speed and installed primarily in accessible locations such as rest areas and public facilities, address the nationwide shortage of EV charging infrastructure. Another 20 sites are under review for 2024 expansion.
The most distinctive architectural feature of E-pit is its canopy, enabling charging in all weather conditions. The canopy’s sharply curved panel ends reduce the metallic heft and visually embody the E-pit brand’s “contemporary minimalism” design philosophy with achromatic elements. This design ensures the charging station integrates harmoniously with any site context. The ceiling incorporates Hyundai Motor’s brand design language, “Parametric Pixel,” and displays charging status at user eye level for functional readability. The parking surfaces, canopy, and chargers are designed as a modular unit, typically with 4 or 6 chargers. The modular system allows flexible expansion depending on site conditions and parking capacity, enhancing ease of deployment and operational efficiency.
