Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) for pharmaceuticals refers to standards that fulfill organized and systemized regulations not only on the facilities for manufacturing medicines but also on manufacturing and quality management at every stage of the process, from the purchase of raw materials to the shipment of finished products. Facilities meeting the latest U.S. standards for cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice) must comply with stringent technological requirements tailored to each product, and their architectural image is closely linked to the product’s perception in the market, leading to the design distinct from typical industrial plants.
The Dongwha Pharm Chungju cGMP Plant, newly constructed in Chungju’s Second Industrial Complex, is organized into production and office buildings, with placement determined by essential functional workflows. As an integrated pharmaceutical plant housing numerous production lines, the production building utilizes a “spine” concept to optimize the production process around the axis of logistics flow, while allowing for appropriate future expansions. Landscape elements and outdoor activity spaces are placed around the office building, accessed by staff and visitors, while the production and support facilities are functionally organized around the logistics building.
