Busan North Port Marina

Busan North Port Marina

The Busan North Port Marina is a facility planned as part of the Busan North Port Redevelopment Project Phase 1. The purpose of its establishment is to revitalize the marina industry in conjunction with the North Port redevelopment and to develop and operate a marina port facility that offers public-friendly marine leisure experiences. Starting with winning the design competition held by the Busan Port Authority (BPA) in 2018, Junglim Architecture narrowed down the alternatives of design proposals by focusing on how the marina, which by nature has limited accessibility and users, could be imbued with public value. The team also studied and analyzed advanced overseas marina cases to create a public architecture that connects with the city.

The terrace-shaped mass of the marina, harmonizing with its external surroundings, optimizes daylight intake, offering views over the sea mooring facilities and the entire marine cultural district. The seashore space where land meets the sea is utilized as extensively as possible to enhance connectivity with mooring facilities and maximize the facing ratio of convenience facilities, facilitating visitor access. Accommodation facilities were placed on the upper floors to provide optimal views of Busan’s sea and cityscape. Additional spaces were secured to function as a “living space for Busan citizens,” including a children’s survival swimming education center and a skin scuba diving pool, supporting community sports activities. Respecting existing buildings such as the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal and the future Busan Opera House, the marina exists harmoniously with the context of North Port redevelopment, embodying a new landmark for Busan.
