COEX, Korea’s first international exhibition complex, has already reached capacity, highlighting the need for a second international exhibition venue. Goyang City, located in northwestern Seoul and poised to become a hub for unification and global exchange, is an ideal location for planning a second international exhibition complex; this project involves the planning of sports facilities within the Goyang International Exhibition Complex. As part of an international exhibition complex set to be developed into a global hub for culture, exhibitions, leisure, entertainment, and tourism, the planned sports facilities—which will serve as key elements of leisure and entertainment—aim to foster organic synergy among the various facilities through the convergence of world-class sports and entertainment. They will also serve as a mecca for flagship sports attractions. The goal of this project is to plan world-class “Sportainment” (Sports + Entertainment) facilities.
