Wonju Gymnasium

Wonju Gymnasium

With a population of 300,000, Wonju is renowned for its passion for basketball, but the city has long been criticized for its outdated and small arena facilities. In response, Wonju City decided to invest approximately 50 billion won to build a multi-purpose sports complex on the site of the old baseball stadium, leading to the creation of the new Wonju Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

The arena is intended to serve not only as a comprehensive sports complex but also as the home court for the Dongbu Purmi, a professional basketball team based in Wonju. Supporting facilities for the players, such as dormitories and training facilities, were planned accordingly, and the venue was designed to host not only various sports events but also concerts and cultural performances for local residents.
