The design competition for the Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries headquarters began under conditions that differed from other projects.
First, as the first headquarters building for a Hyundai Group affiliate, it had to embody a sense of symbolism; second, it was a design competition requiring the submission of two proposals; and third, we had to design a 10,000-pyeong office building that maximized the use of the corner of a triangular site.
We presented two proposals: one that drew on the traditional heritage of Hyundai Group headquarters, and another that harmonized with the triangular site and the shipyard of Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries. Ultimately, the latter proposal was selected and led to the building’s completion.
