Originally built in 1991, the Korea University College of Medicine First Medical Building has undergone expansion and remodeling in five phases since 2014. The project scope includes a complete remodeling of the building-in-occupancy, addition of a sixth floor, and exterior renovations. Specific functions are designated on each floor: student welfare facilities on the first floor; research labs and student study rooms the second floor; laboratories and a lobby on the third floor; comprehensive practice rooms and a TBL (team-based learning) room on the fourth floor; a simulation center and media lab on the fifth floor; and a large lecture hall, an experimental animal research center, and a sky lounge on the sixth floor. The project also ensured coordination with the exterior designs of adjacent buildings completed in prior years — the main medical college building (2012), the Munsuk Medical Building (2014), and the High-Tech Convergence Medical Center (2022) — while adapting spaces to align with evolving educational methods.
