Housing Improvement Project in City Blocks for Bangbae-Samho Apartment Unit 12, 13

Buildings 12 and 13 of Bangbae Samho Apartments are residential-complex buildings implemented through the “street housing improvement project” scheme in a quasi-residential zone at the entrance of Bangbae-dong. While preserving the value of their symbolic location, the design was refined to address restrictions on height and floor area and emphasize ways of enabling outdoor activities within the residential space to meet the rising demand for contact-free lifestyles due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the council review results that recognized the design for its “structure enabling easy remodeling” and “outstanding design quality,” regulatory requirements on height and floor area were relaxed, forming the basis for the main design. The cross-shaped residential blocks (十) enable all units to face south and be equipped with balconies on three sides. The unit-stacking method was modified to provide every residence with a private terrace for outdoor activities, creating a distinctive façade. The neighborhood facilities at the podium level use low-chroma materials to impart an overall sense of stability, and an internal street penetrating the complex was incorporated to encourage vibrancy.
