Korea University Mediscience Park Chung Mong-Koo Future Medicine Building

Korea University Mediscience Park Chung Mong-Koo Future Medicine Building

The Chung Mong-Koo Future Medicine Building is a project that expanded and remodeled the former College of Health building on Korea University’s Jeongneung Campus, establishing a new core research cluster for the university medical center. The planning was based on the unique characteristics of three main buildings — Information Hall, Justice Hall, and Horim Hall. Information Hall houses offices for the medical headquarters and administration; Justice Hall contains GMP-compliant facilities and offices for external research-focused enterprises; and Horim Hall accommodates animal laboratories and research offices. Due to differences in completion dates and functions, each building’s remodeling or expansion scope was carefully tailored. Justice Hall was remodeled internally with new layouts appropriate to its use, while Horim Hall underwent horizontal and vertical expansions to address the limitations of space and vertical circulation, along with renovation of its aging exterior façade.

Information Hall and Justice Hall were designed with open, flexible smart office layouts, separating workspaces from lounge and meeting areas to enhance concentration. Horim Hall’s internal circulation was streamlined and service shafts were integrated to maximize spatial efficiency. The layouts of laboratory and research spaces were optimized; terracotta was used as the primary façade material, strengthening the architectural identity and continuity of the medical campus at Jeongneung. All façade treatments were designed to harmonize with the surrounding campus buildings.
