National Maritime Museum of Korea

National Maritime Museum of Korea

The National Maritime Museum of Korea, located on the reclaimed land of Yeongdo in Busan, is a space designed to originate from, flow with, and evoke the sea. Modern museums have evolved beyond simply exhibiting historical artifacts and documents to become open cultural facilities where anyone can experience, feel, and enjoy. The National Maritime Museum also balances education and entertainment while serving as a maritime park accessible freely to the public.

To provide the best possible views of the sea, an artificial ground was created on the reclaimed site so that visitors can always see the sea from the beginning to the end of their visit and throughout the interior exhibition spaces. The lower levels house a large auditorium and a library, while the upper floors contain exhibition spaces, a restaurant, an observatory, and other ancillary facilities. As visitors ascend from the bottom to the top, they can experience multisensory interactions with the sea, extending beyond the site itself.
