Korea Institute of Brain Science

As the central facility of the Sinseo Innovation City “Brain City,” we planned a research facility grounded in sustainability. Through a phased facility plan, the design ensures that the laboratories will be fully functional upon completion of Phase 1, while the entire complex will achieve a sense of completeness upon the project’s full completion. Furthermore, by embodying a mass form that symbolizes the brain—with its infinite growth potential—we proposed a cohesive design that will serve as a landmark within Daegu Innovation City. Additionally, a laboratory system plan that maximizes efficiency and flexibility enables a fluid spatial configuration. We proposed the Korea Brain Research Institute, reflecting the vision and future of a world-class brain convergence research center by incorporating the symbolic meaning of a “microcosm within the mind” and a programmatic framework resembling synapses formed by neurons.
