Located at the geographical center of western Gyeongsangnam-do and northern Honam, Uiryeong is a place rich in cultural and artistic potential, rooted in the ecological assets of the Nakdong River, its historical heritage, and the unique way of life embedded in the local character. The nature of the architecture, which embodies the sense of place inherent in these tangible and intangible assets, was defined as landscape-based multi-purpose facilities. The public programs within the building—the Comprehensive Social Welfare Center and the National Sports Center—along with the outdoor sports park, provided the foundation for exploring the potential of diverse public spaces. The activities that change with the time of day and seasons, and the interactions of users with various purposes gathering in the same place, will naturally imbue every corner of the site with a flexible character and lay the groundwork for a new cultural infrastructure in the region.
