Turkmenistan Hotel

Turkmenistan Hotel

Turkmenistan is a nation developing on the strength of its abundant natural resources. Much like South Korea in the 1980s, Western-style modern buildings are rapidly springing up across the country. Among these, Awaza is a key development zone designated as a tourism special economic zone representing Turkmenistan, where hotels and leisure facilities are being constructed at a rapid pace. A new tourism-focused city is taking shape. In this Awaza region, we wanted to preserve the traditional elements that are all too easily overlooked. We hoped that their traditional culture would not be forgotten amidst the modern Western-style buildings. Along with elements of a traditional Turkmen mosque, the use of transparent glass symbolizes the modernization of tradition in the rapidly modernizing Awaza region of Turkmenistan. Rather than creating a hotel with a modern facade that could be found anywhere in the world, we aimed to capture the unique sensibility found only in Turkmenistan. By leveraging Awaza’s geographical characteristics as a region bordering the Caspian Sea, this facade will create a space where tourists from around the world can emotionally experience Turkmenistan’s unique culture and traditions. We propose a landmark that symbolizes the local culture of Turkmenistan.
