A sturdy home embraced by nature. Diplomatic relations between two nations begin with mutual respect and trust. To build a house on the land, one must have a deep understanding of nature and the surrounding environment. Building a home with respect for nature and careful consideration for the surroundings will mark the beginning of eco-diplomacy. The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Japan sought to embody Korean identity through the approach of traditional Korean architecture, which views construction within the context of nature, and reduced the building’s volume and height out of consideration for the surrounding structures. However, it was designed to project the dignity befitting an embassy, while maximizing the incorporation of the site’s natural environment to enhance the comfort of the interior.
