The concept of culture encompasses the ideas of dynamism, change, and instability. I am convinced that modern culture is no longer a culture of sameness, and that it is time to embrace discussions of distortion and transformation as its central themes. We must move beyond the traditional concept of culture as an object to be displayed and instead view it as a composite of humanity’s diverse expressions. This project aims to highlight the fact that art defined as performance inevitably brings about changes in the physical and social perception of shared spaces. Based on the premise of the coexistence of culture and the citizens of Seoul, a key architectural issue is to propose a space that is flexible yet capable of accommodating heterogeneity. Only culture, as an innovative and multipurpose vessel, can induce the active participation of urban dwellers and break down the boundaries between art and society.
