Sartorius Songdo Campus is the Asian production and research hub facility of Sartorius Korea, an international bio company providing R&D and production facilities for the bio and pharmaceutical industry. In foreign direct investment projects, specifically so-called “greenfield investments,” efficiency typically takes precedence due to cost concerns; however, in the case of the Songdo campus construction, architectural aesthetics were prioritized during spatial planning and the selection of exterior details.
Although this was an EPC project managed under the contractor, the designer, Junglim Architecture, uniquely reported the design directly to the German headquarters. High-specification details and materials were applied in response to the top decision maker’s wish that the proposed image remain unchanged even 50 years later, and a large interior space, rarely seen in industrial facilities, was planned. This effort was recognized when the campus won the Excellence Award in 2023 at the IFEZ Landscape Awards, being the only factory-type building to receive this honor.
