Driven by the region’s growth, the existing building of the Paltan-myeon Office in Hwaseong City had reached capacity, and more space was needed to accommodate new demands. Accordingly, JUNGLIM Architecture sought to create a space that would serve as the heart of the local community, featuring a modern and functional layout.
The site was a square plot of land that remained undeveloped within the city. Adjacent to abundant green spaces, the building’s form was designed to serve as a bridge connecting the city and the park.
The program consists primarily of a public health center and administrative service spaces. Although both share a public nature, they needed to be clearly separated; thus, the first floor was divided into two sections, with the administrative service area on one side and the waiting room and examination rooms on the other. Meeting rooms and seminar rooms were placed on the upper floors to accommodate a variety of future programs.
The Paltan-myeon Office is a public building that emphasizes symbolism and form as a landmark of Paltan-myeon, Hwaseong City. The color scheme reflects the vibrant local character of Paltan-myeon while considering harmony with the surroundings, and the use of nature-friendly materials with warm textures conveys a welcoming image. Designed not only to fulfill its function as a public building but also as a cultural community space that integrates indoor and outdoor areas, it aims to bring the facility one step closer to the local residents.
