With a history spanning over 60 years, the current National Masan Hospital is a specialized tuberculosis treatment facility located in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province.
The existing two-story hospital building evokes the peaceful and quiet atmosphere of a rural school campus. In addition, the meticulously maintained landscaping of the grounds provides emotional stability for patients undergoing long-term stays and serves as a healing space where they can take walks. However, due to the severe deterioration of facilities and equipment, it is currently difficult to manage not only infectious diseases such as tuberculosis but even basic infection control.
Accordingly, this project aims to modernize the outdated medical facilities to reestablish the hospital’s status as a national hospital specializing in tuberculosis treatment, while providing an optimal healing environment that actively incorporates the natural surroundings and incorporates architectural considerations for isolated patients.
