This project began alongside the JW Marriott Hotel in Tripoli, Libya, which was completed in 2010. The initial plan was to construct a Twin Tower on the lot immediately adjacent to the hotel. Was it perhaps due to the pressure of becoming a “simulacrum”—a replica that fails to capture the essence of the original? To stand alongside this landmark building, which has come to define the face of Tripoli, Libya, a new identity was required—one that went beyond a mere imitation of form. Furthermore, the Tripoli Office, poised to become the central hub of the international business district alongside Libya’s growth, demands a world-class office space where staff from diverse cultures around the globe can work. We propose an international business hub rising from the Mediterranean.
