Unlike the surrounding buildings, which were constructed to maximize floor area ratio, this project reflected the client’s determination to build only what was necessary within a limited budget. Therefore, it was most important to approach the project from a rational perspective that took the client’s needs into account. We believed it was necessary for the two buildings—a factory and a research facility—to coexist through their spatial relationship (site plan), thereby enhancing the value of the site. Naturally, the inherent differences between the two buildings raised concerns regarding construction costs. While acknowledging this, we sought to find a way for them to harmonize through careful selection and prioritization.
