The Korean Register of Shipping (KRS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to maritime safety, the protection of property, and the advancement of marine and maritime technology. The project began with a focus on the somewhat unfamiliar term “classification.” How should we envision their new headquarters, a space expected to grow steadily thanks to the development of Korea’s shipbuilding industry? Furthermore, how can we create a space that embodies their aspiration to lead the global classification culture? As suggested by the attractive site—a reclaimed area at the mouth of the Nakdong River—and the primal context of the surrounding environment, rich in water and wind, we are accelerating our work based on a shared understanding of the fateful relationship between humanity and the sea.
