At Keimyung University’s Seongseo Campus, there is an empty picture frame titled “Tabula Rasa.” It is said that this frame has been left empty so that, one day when Keimyung University’s identity—which is not yet clearly defined—is established, a painting befitting that identity can be placed within it. The design competition for the new hospital at Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center was an attempt to establish a new identity for Keimyung University, given that the facility—Daegu’s largest with over 1,000 beds—is located within the Seongseo Campus, which features many red-brick buildings. This process involved not only efficient hospital spatial planning but also careful consideration of the forms and materials of the campus buildings.
