The area where 109 and 110 History will be located is Maetan-dong, Suwon. The name of the area derives from the fact that the stream originating from Maebong forms rapids in this region. Drawing inspiration from the flow and pause of a stream, Station 109 was designed as a cultural space for young people in the university district under the concept of “Strolling Through the Rapids,” while Station 110 was created as a family-oriented leisure space within a new apartment community under the concept of “Staying by the Rapids.” Through this, we aimed to propose a new direction where subway stations are not merely spaces people pass through to catch a train, but rather serve as hubs for culture and leisure. Drawing inspiration from the “rapids” in Maetan-dong’s name—where people stroll and linger—we proposed these new station cultural spaces with the hope that they will become starting points for new cultural experiences that people can actively use, enjoy, and savor, rather than simply passing through.
