A new-concept Chinatown featuring mixed-use urban functions—including commercial, residential, cultural, and business facilities—is planned for a 29,000-square-meter site in the western block of the 1.1 million-square-meter Ilsan International Exhibition Center District, where the Korea International Exhibition Center is located. Located between Incheon International Airport and Seoul, the site aims to serve as the hub of urban activity in Ilsan by concentrating the development of sports and leisure facilities, as well as tourism and entertainment amenities, centered around the International Exhibition Center and the lake park. The phased development of the Chinatown has begun as part of an effort to capitalize on the growing interest in China and the increasing trend of Korea-China exchanges across various fields. As the first phase of the project, this initiative focuses on creating a vibrant, modern Chinese street that distinguishes itself from existing Chinatowns by featuring outdoor pedestrian commercial facilities dedicated to dining and retail.
