Hongik University’s Daehak-ro Campus Performance Hall is set to open in Daehak-ro, near Marronnier Park—a hub of culture and the arts that is always brimming with vitality and romance. It is expected to become a new center of performance culture, serving as a place for encounters and communication where diverse performances, stories, and events unfold continuously, and as a space that harmonizes emotion and intellect. As this venue was planned as a theater dedicated exclusively to musicals—a genre considered the most challenging, delicate, and demanding in terms of acoustic design—the design focused above all on ensuring that the audience experiences the finest sound quality and the deepest emotional impact. Through countless communications and simulations with the acoustic design team, the curved lines of the walls and every single detail were refined and revised an innumerable number of times. A musical is a grand, comprehensive art form where theater, music, and dance coexist, and lighting, sound, and visual design harmonize. The design ensures that the stage serves not as a separate entity telling its own story, but as a vessel that faithfully contains all of these elements. We pursued a form and function that evokes a sense of integration and unity, so that the entire venue can function as a single instrument. We aimed to create a space where the emotions of the stage and the audience communicate and resonate with one another, where that energy is transmitted and the emotional impact is amplified and maximized. We look forward to creating the ultimate harmony where the space, the stage, and the audience become one.
