The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics Short Track Speed Skating Arena, planned for the Gangneung Sports Complex, symbolically represents the sea and mountains while embodying the dynamic movements of the athletes. To ensure it becomes a sustainable Olympic legacy for the region even after the Games, the project aimed to incorporate Gangwon Province’s unique character through a harmonious complex layout, meticulous planning of operational facilities with expert input, a venue design that facilitates active post-Games utilization, and state-of-the-art eco-friendly facilities. During the Winter Olympics, the venue will serve as a primary competition venue, offering spectators a festive experience and providing athletes with a convenient and comfortable space to compete. Furthermore, efforts were made to ensure the facility plan satisfies all users, including considerations to make it an optimal showcase for marketing partners. To facilitate post-Olympic utilization, the stadium was designed to be converted into a multipurpose complex capable of hosting various sports events, local festivals, and concerts at minimal cost. The surrounding outdoor spaces were developed as a themed park to become a year-round destination for citizens and tourists.
