The following factors were given careful consideration during the early planning stages of the DDMC (Donga Digital Media Center).
First is the symbolic significance of the headquarters building. Modern companies seek to establish their corporate philosophy and project their brand image through their headquarters. Not only the building’s exterior but even its name is created with these considerations in mind. In the case of the DDMC, unlike a typical headquarters used by a single company, it was intended to be used by multiple tenant companies, so a symbolism capable of representing all of them was particularly necessary. The keyword “N” came to reflect the business characteristics of the tenant companies and impart a strong symbolic meaning to the building’s form.
Next is the building’s environmental sustainability. The era of buildings that merely consume energy is over. Rather than structures that ignore their surroundings, buildings must become eco-friendly structures that respond to and actively embrace the environment. In this project, environmental sustainability was considered from the mass design stage, and the building’s environmental performance was maximized through the use of segmented masses.
Finally, there is the aspect of the workspace. Unlike in the past, the office environment is evolving from a space where people simply sat at desks to work into a space that is creative, open, and flexible enough to accommodate the needs of a changing organization. It must be an office that supports the diverse work patterns of users, rather than a “working machine” designed solely from the employer’s perspective.
