Cheonggye Open Church’s pastoral philosophy is rooted in convergence, and its name and programs are imbued with an open-minded spirit. To contrast with the imposing exterior of the neighboring church, the building’s exterior features soft curves that reflect the flow of water, expressing a feminine warmth, while its silhouette, resembling a person in prayer, evokes a sense of the sacred.
To preserve the memory of the site’s redevelopment history, the theme of “home” was adopted, creating a “home within a home,” “paths within a home,” and “spaces and places within paths.” Through prayer rooms infused with light and colors—white, black, blue, and red—the church seeks to draw people closer to God, while its open programs aim to reach out to the public.
