ChangShin Nike Plant no.4

ChangShin Nike Plant no.4

Architecture continues to explore new possibilities based on site-specific conditions. The site in Karawang, Java, Indonesia, differs significantly from Korean sites in many ways. It provided a new testing ground for exploring the question: What is the architectural solution best optimized for an environment characterized by a hot and humid subtropical climate, occasional torrential downpours, and distinct dry and wet seasons throughout the year? Through the process of gradually incorporating architectural ideas—even while involved in the factory production program’s Concept Design phase—we came to realize that solutions to actual user activities directly impact both architecture and productivity. As an OEM for the global brand Nike, the project’s goals are, first and foremost, to create a welfare factory that communicates with local residents and gives back to society, and to provide the most rational and economical architectural solution that enables high-efficiency energy savings.
