The master plan, which takes its inspiration from the star on the Vietnamese flag—a symbol of national reunification—was designed to feature five distinct spaces, each housing a memorial representing intellectuals, farmers, soldiers, workers, and merchants. It consists of a central axis for paying respects (Memorial Street), a path (Memorial Bridge) where visitors can learn about the history of the war while strolling through the park, and 19 Memorial Walls symbolizing the 19-year Vietnam War.
