Buyeo Lotte Premium Outlet

Buyeo Lotte Premium Outlet

The Buyeo Lotte Premium Outlet project began with the selection of a design proposal through a restricted competition in May 2011. Over the course of two years and five months leading up to its opening in September 2013, the project underwent numerous design revisions to realize the vision of a traditional cultural outlet that harmonizes with its surroundings.

The initial design proposal featured a modern aesthetic optimized for the outlet’s characteristics and was a plan that was entirely suitable for a commercial facility.
However, considering the site’s location within the Baekje History Recreation Complex, everyone agreed that a slightly more restrained exterior design was necessary, To achieve this restrained aesthetic, we repeatedly deliberated on how to apply traditional Baekje-era architectural styles. Drawing on historically verified details from the construction of the Baekje History Recreation Complex—such as the chimni-patterned ridge tiles at the ends of the roof ridge, and the S-shaped brackets supporting the beams between columns—we created a design that harmoniously blends tradition and modernity to the greatest extent possible.
