A groundbreaking ceremony for the “Heavy Ion Therapy Center” at Seoul Asan Medical Center—which will house a heavy ion therapy system, a state-of-the-art cancer treatment device—was held on Thursday, June 11, at Seoul Asan Medical Center in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
This project, in which JUNGLIM Architecture participated, was launched to provide personalized precision medicine to patients with intractable cancers and to expand new treatment opportunities. The Heavy Ion Therapy Center is scheduled to be constructed with a total floor area of 39,502 square meters (approximately 11,949 pyeong), comprising three basement levels and nine above-ground floors, with the goal of becoming operational in 2031. It will be the largest heavy ion therapy center in South Korea.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by key officials, including Chung Mong-joon, Chairman of the Asan Foundation; Park Sung-woo, Director of the Asan Medical Center; Park Seung-il, Director of Seoul Asan Hospital; and Seo Kang-seok, Mayor of Songpa District. Representing JUNGLIM Architecture, CEO Yongkyo Jeong and Healthcare BU Leader Soyoung Woo were present to celebrate the successful start of construction.
JUNGLIM Architecture will continue to contribute to the creation of patient-centered medical spaces, drawing on its expertise in the healthcare sector.
