The Tripoli JW Marriott Hotel – located in Tripoli, the capital of Libya in northern Africa – is an overseas project by Junglim that hoped to revitalize the country during the process of change after the collapse of the dictatorship. Considering the condition of the site which faced the Mediterranean Sea, the rooms of the hotel were planned as square, rather than rectangular plans. The thin and long, box-shaped mass was composed of a double skin to control solar radiation and ensure privacy, and the building was finished with a façade design that was reminiscent of an Arabic pattern and functions as a “device for experiencing an Arabic space”. In addition, this double skin is brilliantly illuminated by LED lights at night, forming a new landmark for the city of Tripoli.
