After various repairs, the first remodeling was done in 2010 by Nikken Sekkei and Gansam Architects & Partners, followed by a second remodeling in 2022 by SOM and Junglim Architecture, which focused on the lobby and arcade spaces. As this second remodeling was conducted while the building was occupied by approximately 6,000 people, it entailed greater complexity than typical remodeling, involving numerous on-site variables and necessitating close collaboration with partners to ensure high-quality completion.

To refresh the building’s image while preserving its identity as LG Group’s headquarters and an architectural symbol in Yeouido, significant work was conducted at key points including the main entrance and sunken space. Interior renovations prioritized user satisfaction by redesigning spatial environment and circulation, integrating fragmented small spaces to enhance usability and provide broader access to diverse areas.

In The Press

[JoongAng Ilbo] [Biz Story] LG Twin Towers’ Dramatic Transformation… Reborn as a ‘Workable’ Space

[Monthly Design] LG Twin Towers: Inheritance and Evolution (January 2025)

[Monthly SPACE] The Unfinished City, Architecture That Endures: Questions Raised by LG Twin Towers’ Past, Present, and Future

The LG Twin Towers were originally designed in 1981 as 34-story twin buildings by American firm SOM and completed in 1987 under the name “Lucky-Goldstar Tower” marking the LG Group’s 40th anniversary.
